Polk students celebrate Freedom Week with pocket constitutions

In honor of America 250, CFBISD partnered with Constituting America to make Celebrate Freedom Week and Constitution Day an unforgettable experience for our students by generously donating over 24,000 Pocket Constitutions for all CFBISD students. The non-profit and non-partisan organization-- with a mission to get a copy of the constitution in students' hands--visited Polk Preparatory Academy on Friday, Sept. 18th during Celebrate Freedom Week.

Students gathered in the cafeteria, the auditorium and in classrooms to hear from Brandon Vanderford, a professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and to read through, discuss, and learn how to teach others about what our constitution holds true. It's an opportunity for students to dive in and analyze the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution in a fun filled way, while aligning to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Constituting America has visited or plans to visit all CFBISD secondary campuses through U.S. History and Government classes this year.

"There is nothing better than watching students get genuinely excited about history. Handing them these pocket Constitutions gave them a real, tangible connection to our past and sparked so much curiosity about how our government was founded," says Terri Truong, Social Studies Coordinator for CFBISD.
