Art - Polk Middle

Art at Ted Polk is designed for students to explore and experience creative expression, critical evaluation, and a greater appreciation for the Visual Arts. While learning about the elements and principles of design, students will develop their awareness for various medias and art processes. A variety of famous artists, cultures and styles throughout history will be studied.

Pathways

6th Grade Art: This course introduces the elements and principles of art and provide introductory experiences that will enable students to express creative ideas through a variety of mediums, processes and art history studies. The focus is basic art making skills and the art making process.

Art 1: This course explores the elements and principles of art and provide experiences that will enable students to express creative ideas through a variety of mediums and processes. Students will spend time completing art projects designed to develop the student’s self-expression and talents as an artist. The students will explore concepts that will increase their knowledge about art materials and use, art equipment, and art history.

Art 2: This course advances the students’ knowledge and skills using the elements and principles of art and provides experiences that will enable students to express creative ideas through a variety of mediums and processes. The focus is building on the art making skills and the art making process obtained in Art 1. In this multicultural art education course students will have an opportunity to express themselves creatively and develop their own visual literacy by studying art production and art history from around the globe.

Prerequisite: Art 1

Art 3: This course emphasizes a deeper understanding of learned elements and principles of art and provide exploration of creative advanced ideas with variety of mediums and processes. This course is designed for students to experience advanced creative expression, critical evaluation, and a greater appreciation for the Visual Arts. Students will examine major cultural phases, famous artists and their styles throughout history and expand their evaluation skills through applied critique and design analysis.

Student Organizations

Art Club is open to all students who want to be creative, hone in on their skills, develop their techniques and collaborate with other students. Our art club meets at least once a month, with more meetings if a project/contest requires it. Students will create bonds with the community through the arts, and learn how to work together through group projects that will beautify the school and community. This club allows students who don't have an art class in their schedules to still be able to express themselves creatively.
